Fill The Font! And Eat Some Fresas

Hey everybody!

We had a marvelous week. We were able to see our brother, Nestor, enter the waters of baptism. It was a beautiful service. He shared his testimony with everybody after he was baptized and it was amazing! He is a changed man. He couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire service. A little background on Nestor! He has family on one of his uncles sides that are all members. His nephew is currently serving a mission. Throughout his life his uncle would take Nestor to church with him but he was never really interested. A few months ago when missionaries came to visit Nestor and his wife, he said that the timing was perfect. They had been going through a really hard time. His wife is a member but was less-active when we started visiting them. They are now such a beautiful active family! They have a 7 year old daughter that is absolutely adorable. Nestor will baptize her when she turns 8. We are currently working on preparing Nestor's sister, Trini, for baptism. I love their family! I can't imagine the look on that elders face when he sees the picture of his uncle in white for his baptism!

We have another baptismal service this weekend! We will see two more of God's wonderful children enter into the waters. Jonathan Ramos and Celeste Rodriguez. Celete's brother, Gerardo, was baptized back in February.

We set another baptismal date for June 15th for Daniella Perez Pineda. Her parents aren't members but she wants to be baptized. Their whole family comes to church every Sunday! They are amazing, we love them so much. We want so badly for the parents to be baptized but as of right now they can't for complicated reasons.

I have a cool story that happened this week! We were walking to our car after dropping by some investigators that weren't home when we noticed a man sitting under a tree in some shade (the real reason why the Lord wanted us there). He was drinking a beer and had two more large cans next to him that were full. We introduced ourselves and quickly started to teach him about the Restoration. He told us that he has tried to be religious in the past but he can't stop drinking. He thought it was impossible to stop. He said he drinks when he wakes up, and then heads to the store after work to buy some more and then continue drinking. We began to testify of Christ's atonement and the power that we can access from it. We told Him that when Jesus Christ suffered for us, he took upon himself all the temptation, trials, pain, guilt, sickness and all manner of affliction upon himself. He listened intently and then said that he prays every night to stop drinking and then the next day he drinks again. So he basically had lost all hope. I then said to him, "Reynol, you've been praying to stop drinking, and here we are". There was about 10 seconds of silence and then my companion added, "We are messengers of God". He looked up at us and then at the ground. There was about 2 minutes of complete silence. It was amazing! The spirit was so strong. The spirit confirmed to him that God had answered his prayer and that we were there to help him. My companion continued, "The process of changing and you leaving alcohol behind starts right now. So we're going to take the rest of your beer and we're going to leave you with this Book of Mormon". We promised him that if he reads it and prays about it that he will no longer want to drink. He let us take the beer and as we were driving away, he was already reading the book! It was a pretty neat experience. I love being a missionary so much! Experiences like these where God manifests His power happen daily.

I love this work, I love this gospel, and I love this Church. "The head of the Church is the Lord Jesus Christ. It is His Church. But the earthly head is our prophet. Prophets are men who are endowed with a divine calling. Notwithstanding the divinity of that calling, they are human. They are subject to the problems of mortality" - Gordon B. Hinckley.

It has always been God's pattern to call a man to be a prophet on the earth so that we can receive all the blessings that He wants us to have. I know that it is all true.

I love you all! Have a marvelous week. Happy Memorial Day!!
