Miracles
This week was incredible!! We picked up 4 new investigators. And they were all miracles. So, Jose Luis is the less-active man that called us a few weeks ago asking us to come over and talk to him. Since then he has come to church three weeks in a row and loves it. He has come back to the fold!! Last week my companion had to attend a few zone meetings with the other zone leader up in Gilroy. So Elder Fluckiger, the other zone leader's companion, came down to Hollister for the day to go on exchanges with me. He has only been in the field for 3 weeks and is an English speaking missionary, so I was kinda freaking out haha but all is well! It was a magnificent day. We went and visited Jose Luis. Shortly after arriving, a man walked up to the door. Jose told us that he invited a friend and asked if it was okay for him to join us, I was like, well yes!! Let's teach him. Turns out that the man is one of Jose's best friends and has been looking for the right church. He has been an alcoholic his whole life and wants to change. He's sick of living the same old life of drinking 24/7 and always feeling terrible. So, he told us he had been praying for an answer. One day he was walking down main street in Hollister and found a Book of Mormon on the side of the path, it was just laying there!! Curious, he picked it up and took it home. He showed it to Jose Luis, Jose was like "That's from my church! I love that book!" It was a miracle!! Heavenly Father answered his prayer and placed the word of God right in front of him. We taught Jose and his friend the restoration and then about the Book of Mormon. He told us that he knows this was an answer from God, and that he wants to read the whole thing. He came to church yesterday with Jose and loved it! He was very involved in the classes. So he is a very solid investigator and is already wanting to get baptized. We were overwhelmed. A man that was less-active a month ago is now doing missionary work. It's incredible.
The other 3 investigators are a hardcore catholic family. Marisol is in her 30's and she lives with her mom, Luisa. Edwardo is in a wheelchair, he's Marisol's brother and he's in his 20's. We found them while contacting a couple weeks ago and asked for their address. So we dropped by last week. They said they were busy at the time, so we quickly shared a doorstep message. Afterwards we walked back to our bikes and got ready to go contact some more. A few minutes later, just as we were getting on our bikes to leave, Marisol walked out and asked us if we could come back into her house and share another message about Jesus Christ. We were shocked! But I'm so happy. We went back in and taught a powerful message about our Heavenly Father and His great plan for us. The Holy Ghost must have worked on her soon after we left the first time, and was prompted to invite us in at 5 just a few minutes after we had already left. She loved what we had to teach her and wanted us to return.
For New Years Eve, President Mella allowed sleepovers! So 6 of us missionaries cracked open some non-alcoholic bubbly and had a blast. We watched Mountain of The Lord and a few other church movies. The next day, we were back to normal missionary work and I loved it.
I testify that miracles have not ceased. There are different kinds of miracles. Jesus performed many different kinds of miracles when He was on the earth. The pioneers who crossed the plains endured incomprehensible trials and witnessed hundreds of miracles. And today, The Lord is still and always will be merciful. He continues to lead and guide us every single day. If we continue to stay worthy and practice obedience with exactness, we will witness many miracles. I have seen many on my mission, and my testimony of my Savior increases every time one occurs. He doesn't fill the gaps, He fills us. He is constantly illuminating our paths before us. Jesus is the Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of the world. He will NOT leave us out to dry, and he WILL NOT leave us in the dust. He is there, we just have to let him into our lives.
I love and miss you all. Keep on keeping on.
